A Month for His Heart
The month of June is dedicated in a special way to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. One of the many ways to express this devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is the practice of the Nine First Fridays. The Heart of Jesus said to Saint Margaret Mary of Alacoque, “In the excess of the mercy of my Heart, I promise you that my all-powerful love will grant to all those who receive Communion on the First Friday, for nine consecutive months, the grace of final repentance. They will not die in my disgrace, nor without receiving the sacraments, and my Heart will be their secure refuge in that last hour.” The necessary conditions to receive these graces are: 1) Receive Holy Communion during nine first Fridays of the month without interruption. (It is advisable to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation beforehand, and this must be observed when one conscious of being in mortal sin.) 2) Have the intention of honoring the Sacred Heart of Jesus and reaching final perseverance. 3) Offer each Communion as an act of expiation for the offenses committed against the Most Blessed Sacrament.
Whoever Sees Jesus Sees Mary
Saint John Eudes, promoter of the Devotion to the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, said, “Whoever sees Jesus sees Mary, and whoever loves Jesus loves Mary. Whoever is devoted to Jesus is devoted to Mary.” Jesus and Mary are inseparable; their Hearts are inseparable. Mary leads us to Jesus and Jesus gives Mary to us: "Behold your Mother." He gives her to us as a mother. He gives us the heart of a mother. Saint John Eudes puts in Jesus' mouth the following words: “I give you the Heart of Mary as an immense sea of all kinds of graces.”
A Mother's Heart
ElThe Heart of Mary intercedes for us. Her heart's love is directed towards God, towards her Son Jesus, but also towards us, her children. We obtain many graces and favors through the devotion to Mary and to her Immaculate Heart. Pope Pius XII, when he consecrated the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, said, “We prostrate ourselves before you, pleading you, sure that we will obtain mercy, grace and the aid we need.”
The Five First Saturdays
Alongside the devotion of the Nine First Fridays in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is the devotion of the Five First Saturdays in honor of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. In December of 1925, the Blessed Virgin appeared to Sr. Lucia and said to her, “I promise to assist at the hour of their death, with the necessary grace for salvation, all those who go to Confession, receive Holy Communion, and pray the third part of the Rosary with the intention of reparation for five consecutive first Saturdays of the month.”
Jacinta sees the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Among the apparitions that Jacinta Gonzalez had in Garabandal, there is one in particular that stands out above all the rest: the apparition of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He appeared to her while the other girls were in ecstasy seeing Saint Michael. His beauty was extraordinary, that of “the most handsome of men.” What captivated Jacinta the most was His infinite love and His gaze that penetrates the heart.

I Come with the Desire to Bring You to Our Hearts
The devotion to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary is a call to draw us closer to their love, to love them and let ourselves be loved by them. In the last apparition, Our Blessed Mother explains the reason for her visit: “I have come for all my children with the desire to bring them close to our Hearts.” We must come to her with trust and with love. Above all, we ought to ensure that it is not just a question of words, but rather make it a reality in our lives. If you really love someone, you happily do whatever he or she tells you or asks of you. This is how it should be with God, who is the most worthy of our love. The Virgin Mary desires our salvation, and that is why she calls us to conversion. She desires to turn our heart and gaze back towards God and towards the eternal goods that truly give meaning to our life.
