What is the Eucharist?
‘Eucharist’ is the name which we give to Jesus hidden under the species of bread and wine. The word ‘Eucharist’ means ‘to give thanks.’ It’s a very appropriate name because, out of all the gifts we have to thank Him for, Jesus’ presence among us, as the Living Bread, is the greatest of all.
The Eucharist truly nourishes us. Just as we need food to keep our body alive, to grow and be strong, we also need food for our souls. The Eucharist, the Bread of Life, gives us this food and keeps the life of grace alive in our souls. It helps us to grow as good and loving children of God.
Our Lady of Garabandal teaches us that the Eucharist must be the center of our lives. Jesus is present in the Eucharist and is waiting for us there. Our Blessed Mother encouraged the girls to go the church and visit Him there. One day she told Conchita, “Conchita, you should visit my Son more in the tabernacle. Why do you let yourself be led by laziness to not visit him? He is waiting for you day and night."
A Great Love
Jesus in the Eucharist has a great love for us. Do you also have a great love for the Eucharist?
The Eucharist is the center of our Christian life and all Christians must love it.
Ask Our Lady to help you love the Eucharist more, and to not be afraid of being a Christian, of telling others that you are a Christian, and of going to Mass and praying.
